scope of session env. var profiles

Hi,

Quick question: are env. variable profiles global or session-specific, what's their scope and when are they applied?
Specifically, does KDevelop see the variables itself so that you could e.g. set logging output specific to a particular session?

It doesn't seem to work for me to set QT_LOGGING_RULES this way, and I see a way to select a session-specific profile. Am I doing something wrong or trying something that isn't (yet?) implemented?
