  I am totally swamped at the moment, so I migth take some time before I can look deeper into your patch - If others would like to, feel free to do so.
  
  Some inital thoughts though.
  
  In the description of the patch you say you want to address the use-parent-builddiir assumption/hack. Yet the patch does not touch these lines. Is there a subsequent patch?
