No Icons showing up, when not using KDE

Thanks for that tip. Yes, the problem also occures in kate. I uploaded
the two files [0], and for better visualtation, I modified them a bit
(e.g. = ! was a number once, but for better `diffing` I changed them, I
also removed the pid number)
Revision 1 (red) is with my i3, Revision 2(green) with kde. I don't see
why it uses a different path and choose to use breeze (which it should).
Is there an environment variable which determines the kde theme?
