Looks ok to me, when we do have the improved progressbar/notification
area stuff this should be moved to use that. But its not yet clear when
that might happen.

Do you have an svn account or should I commit this?

Having gone through older bugreports its quite clear that often a simple
text line in the statusbar is not visible enough for important error
messages.
