I*VC qeustion: multiple flavors of log()?

What is the rationale for having log() in IBasicVC? Is it really 
supported by any VCS that does not support IBrowsableVC? Is it just a 
convenience to avoid making log() in IBrowsableVC also accept a local 
path and/or against needing to also use repositoryLocation first?

Unrelated question: Is there a policy regarding use of [in]/[out]/etc on 
@params? What about proper use of  @p to format references to the 
parameter in @param?
