Mostly, i'd prefer to see just the position being kept properly. If you get 
the patches done before 3.4.0, please post them for review. We'll need to 
make sure there's not a lot in the way of side effects or other weird bugs.  
I won't hold up the release of 3.4.0 for the patches, so if you don't make 
it, we can just commit them for 3.4.1 with or without a review.
