debugger shortcuts

I see this has a good discussion already. Sorry for the spam. :-)

Would you like to be the official maintainer of the debugger? If yes, we 
should announce it. Otherwise I'll continue looking for someone and do the 
occasional fix.

A lot of the stuff your discussing has "history". If your interested in why 
it's like it is don't hesitate to ask.
