It renders with a grey background, on my Konqi (3.2), too. I think it depends 
on which window-backgroundcolor you have seleced.

Otherewise, the design is better than the old one, it is consice, fits into 
the KDE website look, and looks quite nice. Except for one thing: The green 
color-bars and links should be one, or better two shades darker, so that they 
won't burn directly into your retina ;).

IMHO you should try to aim even closer at the look of kde.org, i.e. :

- Make the logo wider so that it takes all the space up to the search / 
language chooser.

- Change the language chooser to a combo-box " Choose your location" (like on 
kde.org)

- Concatenate all the sections at the borders, so that there is no space 
between them. give them a line in the same color as the headers at their 
innermost border.

- Have the main Section have a continious white background. Make the Headings 
Green on white, and large.
