I'm pretty sure it's safe. I've run it like that for weeks. It is a bit ugly,
but it was the least invasive way I could find to do it. I had the idea to
only disable the problem reporter when the number of files in the project was
above some arbitrary threshold (say 100 files) but that makes it
unpredictable, and the implementation seemed too messy.
If you're no longer against this patch (I thought you were), I'll backport it
to the branch. Today is the last commit date for KDE-3.2.1. :)
