No, things aren't *that* bad here.  Just some problems when I click file icons 
in Konqueror, and the like. This reminds me of the way scientists learn about 
the workings of the human brain.  They go study the ones that aren't working 
correctly, and try to determine what part of that person's brain is missing 
or damaged.

In the past week or so I've hit discussions of mime types in several different 
places; XML-RPC, Java Activation Framework, OpenOffice developer 
documentation, and now I'm dealing with it in the KDE.  The last attempt to 
build KDevelop in a build directory outside the source tree failed with a 
mimetype error.  I don't report those build failures because I get pointed 
back to the KDevelop build instructions which tell me to build in-place.

We'll see shortly if that is a problem with the in-place build.

Since I run KDevelop from a directory outside the KDEDIR, I need to 
buildsycoca before I start it.  That results in a big long dump of mime type 
warnings such as these:
