I was able to resolve this issue myself.   After I used gmake instead of
make it worked.  Maybe I should've known by myself, but perhaps it
should also be mentioned in the instructions, as what's there don't work
when used literally.  Yes, and I think I had to replace ldb with ldb41
in one more file in the admin directory.
