I like your modifications too.

I think your idea should be extended by adding a directory "fake-kde" 
where the application will be installed to each configuration. 
Offcourse the option "--prefix <path-to-fake-kde>" has to be added to 
the options for configure. 
Make will have to be replaced by "make; make install".
For the run command the environment variable KDEDIRS has to be set to 
"<path-to-fake-kde>:$KDEDIR"

With such a setup especially a parts based application would just run 
from Gideon.
