Not that it makes any difference but kde3.1 users should do

cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous at anoncvs.kde.org:/home/kde co -r KDE_3_1_BRANCH 
kde-common

as kde 3.1 has been released - otherwise you'll get the head version which may 
or may not work.
