I am not sure, I will leave that up to you, but a 'hack' like that
makes me somewhat uncomfortable. It seems that it isnt really a
solution to the problem but it makes the symptom go away. 

CodeCompletion is still a fairly fragile feature. For me, while working
on KDevelop, it doensn't work more times than it does (Qt classes e.g.)
but I am not really worried about it either.

If you now add a timer that gives the user 2 seconds to decide whether
he wants code completion or not, and the phone rings just after he
typed the -> and then the computer seemingly hangs... That cant be it,
right? 

Roland, who'd rather see a simple switch to turn CC on or off.
