Any XSLT experts here?

Last year I hacked together the doc/tools/index.xsl script to generate
indices from docbook sources. Unfortunately, it doesn't work anymore :-((
When I run it with

  meinproc --stdout --stylesheet /path/to/index.xsl index.docbook

in either doc/kdevelop or doc/kde2book, I get the error

  unregistered variable url
  xmlXPathCompiledEval: evaluation failed
