Sorry for the delay - I've been on holiday

What version of kdevelop are you looking at?

In head there are only a few changes (there really shouldn't have been any 
there either) This version needs to be removed when an ide type editor part 
(whatever this means) is available. I put it there just before kde2.0 release 
so that kdevelop could experiment with getting this ready. Unfortunately 
nobody has looked into doing this.

In kdevelop1.4/2.0 the kwrite there has a very long history that evolved even 
prior to kde1.1.2(? I forget now) being released. It probably isn't worth 
looking into that as the version you have is far too different to compare.

Is there anything in particular you want out of this code?
