OS/Compiler notes: 

Kdevelop can "lose" its child windows, notable the output window.  The window can be freed from it's docked state and not returned (at least, I couldn't figure out how to return it).  It is then managed by the WM.  When it is closed, Kdevelop still shows it (in View->Output View) as being shown.
