No default applications when opening attachments in Kmail

I have no idea what i3 is, but I know that connections between file MIME types 
and/or suffices are defined (and configurable by the user) in KDE. It looks 
logical to me that Mkail uses that KDE configuration. I have no idea how i3 fits 
in here.
