Folder Properties/Expiry - is this deemed working?

I've got a "misc" folder in "Local Folders" than contains a lot of emails over the years so rather than delete the old ones manually, i decided to try the "Expiry" option on the folder properties. 
I set it up to delete and move the expired to the wastebin folder.
I then clicked "Save Settings and Expire Now" button.
It started to do something which turned out to copy the expired emails to the wastebin folder instead of moving them and then making a number of the emails in the original folder "Unread".  The "Unread" count said 60 but if you used the view filter, it only showed 3 as unread.

I tried closing kmail and reopening, but no change. i then closed kmail, did "fsck"&"vacuum" and reopened kmail and still no change.

If you right click the folder and select "Expire" it loads the "Folder Properties" dialog.

I will report this but i was unsure if i was missing a step.
