it's back to crashing about half the time, again. i guess it just needed to 
let things settle.

i reported it. the bug is actually in Qt, #382575 -- https://bugs.kde.org/
show_bug.cgi?id=382575 -- it will be fixed, eventually. it was originally 
reported in july of 2017.
