yesterday i got kontact 5.7.3 on kubuntu 18.04. i had backed up my email (from
kubuntu 14.04) using PIM Settings Exporter, and had a backup zip file that was
3.6 GB. i imported it into the new kontact and everything came out more or
less the way i wanted, but...
there are a lot of random crashes that don't produce usable backtraces... i
click on something and it crashes, or i switch from one message another, and
it crashes, or i try to view an unread RSS article and it crashes. also, my F3
key no longer appears to work for "find next"... but i'm not complaining about
that (yet).
what i was wondering is if, on future versions, a status bar could be added,
or something that indicates that the program is working on something, and not
just hanging up.
i sent a message, but i apparently moved it from the “sent mail” folder too
quickly, because, when i start kontact, it loads two windows: the kontact
window, and the message composer window, with the message in it… and then it
hangs up. it may just be everything settling into its new places… i started
kmail separately from kontact (yes, you can do that, no, i did not know that),
and resolved the conflict with the sent mail message, which hadn’t actually
been sent. who knows what happened to it the first time around, but when i
processed it with just kmail, it did exactly what it was supposed to do. then,
i started kontact and it had a tizzy, but instead of killing it and starting
over, i went for a walk for an hour and a half, and when i came back, it was
in the middle of a totally unrelated process that looked like akregator
synching its database…
is it possible to put in a status bar, or something to indicate that there's
actually something happening, rather than the program not responding and
looking like it has hung up or crashed? that would be good...
