i think you're looking at this the wrong way. you're doing work in this 
area now, but at a speed that fits your other obligations such as home 
or work or life. there appears to be no published schedule of 
milestones, or predictable level of effort. you are, in essence, an 
artist not a craftsman -- a volunteer not an employee.

so it isn't that i don't _have_ to pay, but rather that there is no 
_opportunity_ to pay. but-- i need kmail!
