gedit doesn't have any special support for HTML editing, so if you
want to compose with gedit then you'll need to send a plain text
email.  If you close gedit when it appears, toggle off the "Rich Text"
toolbar button to remove formatting, then relaunch gedit for the
message (e.g. try to type something in the message body of the KMail
compose window to do this), then you'll be good to go.
