  It's annoying, but - worryingly - I've also noticed occasional 
disappearance of an email (not a candidate for moving to another 
folder) from the Inbox...

(Luckily, I can retrieve any such lost email from a duplicate email 
setup, in which I am testing Thunderbird, which is faithfully handling 
a duplicate copy of my POP mailbox (and in maildir format).)
