[kdepim-users] Tbird versus Kmail, performance

Concerning performance: I was getting an increasing impression that performance had regressed (and UI freezes increased) compared to KDE PIM 4.13.3, the version I'm still running on OS X.
So out of curiosity I created a "KDE PIM Legacy" PPA that allows to install PIM 4.13.3 on KUbuntu 14.04 with the backports PPA providing KDE SC 4.14.2 .

The initial impression is indeed that this older version gives a more fluid user experience.

But how can this be true; has the evolution from 4.13.3 to 4.14.2 increased the demands on the underlying hardware that much?
