As Dan already pointed out, KMail is using different channels with Akonadi
server already.

One thing to keep in mind is that KMail has been around for a very long time
and is updated for newer technologies in a continous process rather then being
rewritten from scratch.

This approach will often not yield the best possible usage of newly available
library or system features right away, but have them "trickle" into the
application over time.

Cheers,
Kevin
