It's neither Kubuntu nor Kolab specific.
I see the exact same problem on openSuse 12.3 when dealing with invitations
from M$-exchange/outlook users.

I've already create a bug report for this:
 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325821

Maybe you can add your findings there.
