[kdepim-users] Kmail 4.7.0 Shows Unread Messages That Cannot be Displayed and Have Been Read

I upgraded to 4.7.0 using the fedora-kde47 repository on my Fedora 15
system. I use Kmail to retrieve messages from Gmail (POP) and send
messages from my Gmail account (like this message). The conversion
went OK, but no messages were viewable in any of the converted
folders. I fixed that by doing Folder->Update folder and its
subfolders. Someone might want to look into this, since it is not at
all obvious what to do when it looks like all your mail has
disappeared after the upgrade.

Two irritating problems I observe:

1. Messages I have already read appear intermittently to be unread
and the index shows an inflated count of unread messages.
Furthermore, Go->Next Unread Message selects these messages, but does
not preview them. Repeated Go->Next Unread Message simply loops on
these in the affected folder, previewing nothing.

I uploaded a screen shot illustrating this if it's any help:

    http://postimage.org/image/1hxdi8ew4/

This shows the index selection on an unread message, but the preview
pane will not update from a previous message.

If I run Folder->Update folder and its subfolders, that corrects the
bogus unread messages, but soon afterwards random others start showing
up in seemingly random folders again.

2. While reading a message in the preview pane, sometimes the message
selection spontaneously jumps to another message in the current
folder. This behavior seems to be happening when new mail is checked
and retrieved from my Gmail account.

Additional Information
----------------------

I opened a bug report for number 1:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280230 .

I filter a bunch of mailing lists that I follow into the affected
folders. New messages matching my filter criteria are immediately
moved from the Inbox to a designated folder.

I also notice that after Folder->Update folder and its subfolders,
three old messages from about five years ago show up as unread. These
I can view and they get set to read until the next Folder->Update
folder and its subfolders at which time the same three old message
show up as unread again.

Can someone suggest what other information might be useful to identify
the source of this problem?
