True. However, I'm also regarding this backup as my little safe-guard
against the IMAP service provider messing up (or blocking my account, or
getting hacked, ...).

Sounds workable, alas, only for POP.

I've had a look at KBackup, and it doesn't look bad indeed. However, I
like the fact that with my shell scripts I also implicitly document the
way the backup was made.

In any case, thanks for your input. Generally, I'm all for shiny new
stuff. I'm just forcing myself to make an exception for long-term issues
such as backup.
