Ok. I upgraded to Fedora 13, which is the "bleeding edge" version of Linux.
i'm still stuck on 4.4.3 and still having the lock-up problems. :-(

This time I was typing a message and KMail just totall froze on me. a "ps -
aux | grep mail" showed KMail was in the process of trying to POP email. Is
this what is causing problems? The fact that I'm trying to POP email while
typing a message? Say it ain't so! Just doesn't make any sense that a
modern email client can't receive email while typing a message? FWIW, I've
got plenty of resources left, memory-wise...
[john at slave1 ~]$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3929076 3229360 699716 0 246976 1976208
-/+ buffers/cache: 1006176 2922900
Swap: 2059112 5360 2053752

Any idea on how to fix it?

thanks!
