Yes, Virtuoso is recommend over the old and much slower redland. Make 
sure that Virtuoso is actually installed. I (using openSUSE 11.2) have 
the following packages installed:

soprano-backend-virtuoso-2.3.70-66.1.x86_64
virtuoso-drivers-6.1.0-1.3.x86_64
virtuoso-server-6.1.0-1.3.x86_64
