OK - sounds as though the migration slightly mis-configured. In krunner, type
'akonadi' and select the tray tool (you could open the console straight from
krunner, but at least while you are troubleshooting the tray tool is useful to
have around). Right-click on the tray tool and Configure. From there you can
either edit the existing entry - on this laptop it didn't correctly point to
~.local/share/contacts/) or you can set up a new, standard addressbook,
pointing to ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf. I elected to do both ;D
