OK, I'll try it.

Yes, sometimes KMail seems to get into a tail-spin and has to be killed.  When 
it is, System Activity monitor tells me that kontact is still running, and 
there are a number of kio files associated with it.  I have to kill them all 
before re-starting kontact.  Akregator seems to have a similar problem, too, 
so it may not be exactly KMail that's the problem.
