[kdepim-users] How to import Maildir after re-installing?

How do I get my messages in ~/Maildir back?  I recently had to reformat my
hard drive after backing up my home directory.  After re-installing openSuSE
11.2 I reloaded my home directory.  

Apparently kmail didn't use the prior settings (which I can go into the home
folder and see).  Anyway, it came up in 1st use mode requiring me to re-enter
my personal data and settings.  After that, I can't retrieve my prior
messages.  Tried this with the import Maildir from the file menu but that
couldn't seem to import anything, saying nothing to import.

Any suggestions?  I really need to get some messages from January of this
year but have the mail server (comcast.net) set to delete after 90 days.
