I think that the error probably only occurs when threads are involved - 
especially if a thread is in the middle of the desired selection. It also 
probably only happens when some of the messages are unread.

My aggregation mode is Flat Date View, Threaded, which sets threading as 
"Perfect, by references and by subject", and the thread expand policy is 
"Expand threads with unread or important messages".
