I'm on openSUSE 11.1, running Release 3.5.10 ("release 21.9") and I
routinely drag 1500-2000 messages to my `archive' folder (a folder
named archive.)

I don't put kmail offline.

I'm using maildir.

I keep in my `archive' folder the past year's worth of sent and
received e-mails. Yes, every single one of them! :)

Last year (2008), I received 35,380 messages and sent 8,084.

So unlike Anne's experience, I find kmail to be very robust moving
huge chunks around.

Speaking of, I need to archive away June ...

... I grabbed 801 `Sent' messages in one shot. It took about 10
seconds - I didn't time it though. :o

Next I moved 2,564 messages. It took roughly 45 seconds. While
running, my hard drive was maxed out. CPU was only at 30% on one of
my cores.

My machine is very fast though: I7 950.

Cheers,
