I've never used gmail's imap, which, from all I've read, does things rather 
differently from everyone esle's imap :-)  I choose to use one of the 
alternatives - I forward my mail to my isp, leaving a copy on gmail.  It works 
for me, and avoids all the problems I hear of people having with gmail imap.  
Now if only I could find a way to 'expire' mail in gmail, the way I can in 
kmail, I'd be completely happy.
