That's the option I would have pointed you to if you wouldn't have found 
it already. :-)

Does it happen when you quickly browse your mail, i.e. if you go to the 
next message before the current message has been fully loaded?

Don't worry. KMail has so many options that it's very easy to overlook 
one.
