I just did and it appears to be human (my) error, as this time it worked as 
expected.

I think I got caught in that trap where am having a private, off-list 
discussion that is being filtered to a list folder because the filter 
criteria put it there.  A reply, even to a non-list message, if it is in a 
list identified folder, goes to the list.  I know that quirk, but it catches 
me once in a while.
