Well the reason I asked is that isn't the way it works for me anymore with 
kmail 1.9.10 (or previous 1.9.x versions).  Perhaps this changes with mailing 
list configured folders?

I just replied to your email which was sent to my verizon.net address, and the 
reply identity was the default gmail.com address.  The folder is set to the 
verizon.net identity.  If it matters, I had just manually changed the 
identity of a reply from another folder set to the verizon.net identity by 
default.  (I had changed my subscription address to that other list, but had 
forgotten to change the folder properties.)
