I wrote on this some time ago when encountering the same problem. My
'solution' is as home-spun as yours:
. export selected data from addressbook into a .csv file (this lets you select
data by categories, too)
. import data into an OO database and work from thereon on further selection
criteria (thru queries, for example) and on appearance.
I wished there were a more intelligent way to do this. Good luck,
