Did you export to csv then import, Werner?  It doesn't look as though you can 
import directly.  Last week someone said that the way he did it was to create 
a backup copy of the addressbook, then select all entries and elect to store 
them in the new groupware folder.  That empties your addressbook, which is 
why the backup is vital.  I did it that way and it certainly got them in 
without a crash.  However, since I didn't have the rest working properly I 
don't know whether there would have been any snags.
