Assuming you have kpilot installed, set the device to usb:  - note that 
the colon is necessary.  If you don't have kpilot installed, start 
there.  Timing can be tricky: you need to start kpilot before pressing 
the sync button on the handheld.  Wait until the icon appears in the 
bottom right hand corner of the screen.
