I've no experience of the OpenSUSE version, but I do have one folder into 
which I pipe html mail from certain companies.  I have no problem whatsoever 
in viewing them as html, so it's not a KDE problem.  Have you asked on the 
OpenSUSE lists whether anyone else has had/cured this problem?  Off hand I 
can't think of anything that would prevent it working.
