Please excuse my asking, but why don't you ask this question in a
Thunderbird forum?
KMail currently can import mail from 13 (!!!) different sources. If
Thunderbird only supports importing from Netscape Communicator then how
are we supposed to help?
My guess is that you have to install a plugin since plugins are the
usual excuse for missing functionality in plain-vanilla Thunderbird.
FWIW, I'm using Thunderbird at work (on Windows) and I hate it.
