[kdepim-users] KMail: large attachments

A to Q 6.12 in FAQ in the KMail Handbook says:
"KMail is known to have problems with large attachments. We are working on a 
solution for this problem for KDE 3.2 but currently it temporarily consumes 
virtual memory of about 10-15 times the size of the attachment. That means 
that if you attach a 2MB file KMail might temporarily need about 20-30 MB of 
virtual memory (= RAM + swap space). If you do not have enough virtual memory 
this will lead to problems."
When I used KDE 3.3 I was still experiencing severe problems with outgoing 
large attachments even though swap space  was enormous and the same with 
incoming ones; here POP3 and SMTP were used via Gmail.
Now I would like to know in advance how are things going with KMail 1.9.6 in 
this respect.
