don't care? ~/.kde is not portable imho. and it's final. I've had too many
things not copy over right... I can't even be sure I wouldn't be downgrading
an app in there. I"m not going to go to suse and gentoo and check every app
by hand. I feel sorry for the person whose been doing that since 2000 since
most open source apps don't clean up there own cruft. seriously you think
copying temporary data from ktorrent is a good idea (and ktorrent wouldn't
clean it up it isn't smart enough)? and copying all of my email? (both are
in .kde) hey what about that amarok bug I had that one time apparently cause
by downgrading amarok? or how about the fact that I doubt I have all the
packages in gentoo that I have in suse. I'd just be moving cruft that I'm not
using.
also from 'os' upgrades... I'm guessing tools were used (my /homes on it's own
part so... I've done that too)? or you weren't copying from a 'hot' system? I
wouldn't copy /var into place on another system either. that would be just
stupid.
one reason I'm doing this is to get the /etc like kde files out of .kde so I
can put them on version control (can't put ~/ on vcs tried it fails do to too
many /var and /tmp files in my home directory that software makers like kde
put there.
to make a long story short I'm trying to fix this just for me.

finally, I was done with this thread like a day ago. I got the files I needed
copied over. I apologize for the rant as it is not truly conductive but I
feel the need to backup my position on this matter.
