My install broke last week so I reinstalled the OS (openSUSE Tumbleweed), same
distribution, same version, no hardware change, same /home partition (did not
format it, only root), and now the problem is gone.

So I guess something in my root had been corrupted for a while, causing the
issue, and it wasn't in the user files.

After the reinstall, KMail was working as usual, with the accounts and data
untouched, except now it does not stop working after the computer goes to
sleep.
