            Bug ID: 489860
Summary: Some UTF-8 characters in the subject cause the subject
to not be displayed in the message list
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kmail2
           Version: 6.1.2
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: message list
          Assignee: kdepim-bugs at kde.org
          Reporter: tl at stonemx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Hi all,

using the current KDE/KF/Plasma 6.1.2/24.05.2 with Qt 6.7.2 on Gentoo, I
noticed the following, whilst looking at some newsletters:

If the subject of an email contains UTF-8 characters, some cause the subject to
not be displayed in the message list.

Example:

An E-Mail containing the following subject:

    Subject: =?utf-8?B?8J+amiBUb3AgRS1CaWtlIEFuZ2Vib3RlIHVuZCB2aWVsZXMgTQ==?=
     =?utf-8?B?ZWhy?=

is rendered correctly to

🚚 Top E-Bike Angebote und vieles Mehr

both in the message view and the message list. So is one using another
encoding:

    Subject: =?UTF-8?Q?=F0=9F=A4=A9_Beste_Technik_im_Conrad_Blue_Month!?=

becomes

🤩 Beste Technik im Conrad Blue Month!

whereas this one

    Subject: =?UTF-8?Q?GRATIS_Versand!_=E2=9A=BD_Jetzt_noch_einl=C3=B6sen!?=

is only displayed correctly inside the message view as

GRATIS Versand! ⚽ Jetzt noch einlösen!

but in the message list, no subject is displayed.

I suppose this is due to those special UTF-8 chars …
