Is there any other information needed to find the cause of this problem? Or
could someone point me to where I could start looking in the code for the cause
of this? Maybe I could put together a MR then, this is a big issue for me on
KDE Neon and a touchpad as the main input device.

It happens for me as well on KMail version 5.19.40 alpha (22.03.40).
